Struggling with a lot of similar sound issues, as well as many others on numerous Windows 10 upgraded laptops, I went through some hoops in search for fixes.
Instead of delving into the registry and the horrible options menu.
Disabling the page file would logically help, if the system memory is over 4 gigabytes for standard usage and 6GB for gaming machines.

The main solution I found was to uninstall old drivers that are carried over from the previous Microsoft installation, the Bing Desktop Application (replaced with Start Search / Cortana) and the touchpad driver for example.
Then, reinstall only the most mandatory of drivers and firmware. Also, be sure to reinstall any Antivirus software as incorrect installations can result in overactive disk activity.
The sound skipping problem should be solved.
Another odd factor is portable devices proximity to WiFi routers. On some older machines, the problem occurs when below a meters distance from the wireless router.
I hope this experience-founded information helps. I would appreciate other experiences.
